The truth about trauma: what they don’t tell you
They tell you children are resilient.
They tell you that time heals all wounds.
They tell you to just “move on.”
They are lying.
Trauma isn’t a scratched knee. It isn’t something you just “bounce back” from because you’re young.
The truth? Trauma is a thief. It steals your peace. It steals your focus. It steals your sense of safety before you even know what safety feels like.
At Survive and Conquer Foundation inc, we don’t do "fluff." We don't do "sugar-coating." We deal in the raw, uncut reality of survival.
Because if you’re between 14 and 30 and you’ve seen things no one should see, you don’t need a Hallmark card.
You need a lifeline.
The Numbers They Hide
Let’s talk about the weight you’re carrying.
Did you know that 61% of youth experience at least one major trauma before they even hit 18?
That’s not a statistic. That’s a crisis.
When you’ve lived through community violence, homelessness, or incarceration, the world expects you to just “get over it” and get to work. But trauma changes the brain. It puts you in a permanent state of high alert.
How are you supposed to build a future when your brain is still stuck in a war zone?
We see the shame. We see the struggle to feel human again.
But here is the most important thing you will read today: You are seen. You are valued. And you don't need permission to heal.
The "Resilient" Trap
Calling a survivor "resilient" is often just a way for people to stop helping.
If you’re "resilient," they don’t have to worry about your pain. They think you can handle it on your own.
We call BS.
Resilience isn't a solo sport. It's a collective power. It’s a community in action.
Our founder, Rasheem Artis, didn’t just wake up one day and decide to be "fine" after a near-fatal attack. He had to fight for his dignity. He had to rebuild his mind. He had to transform that pain into a movement.
Healing is a choice. But it's a choice you shouldn't have to make alone.
What We Do (And Why We Do It)
We don't just talk. We act. Every service we provide is designed to meet a physical or emotional necessity.
Healing and Emotional Development Programs
What: Intensive workshops and tools to process trauma.
Why: Because unprocessed pain is a poison. If you don't talk it out, you act it out. We provide the space to bleed emotionally so you don't have to bleed in the streets.
Life Skills Training
What: Practical guidance on navigating the "real world": from finances to stability.
Why: Because trauma breaks your rhythm. It makes the "simple" things feel impossible. We provide the roadmap to break the cycle of violence and build a foundation that actually holds.
Mentorship
What: Direct, one-on-one support from people who have been there.
Why: Because you can't be what you can't see. Our mentors are proof that your past is not your sentence. They provide the "genuine presence" and "wisdom" needed to navigate the dark days.
Survivor Bags
What: Kits filled with essentials like hygiene products and encouragement cards.
Why: Because dignity starts with the basics. When you feel clean, you feel human. When you feel human, you start to believe you’re worth the fight.
This Is a Movement, Not a Charity
We aren’t looking for pity. We are looking for power.
We are building a community where your scars are your credentials. Where your survival is your strength.
When you wear our branded merchandise, you aren’t just wearing a hoodie. You are wearing a statement of war against trauma. You are funding the programs that keep our youth alive.
This is what collaboration looks like.
This is what service feels like.
This is what victory looks like.
You Belong Here
Stop waiting for someone to save you. Start realizing you already have the power to conquer.
We are honored to walk this path with you. We are grateful to stand in the gap.
Whether you are a survivor looking for a way out, or a supporter looking to make an impact: your time is now.
Don’t let the world tell you who you are. Tell the world who you’ve become.
Survive. Conquer. Repeat.
